Mobile broadband speeds have been growing at a solid rate in recent years. A good average speed from the networks is around 3.6Mbps. Many of the UK networks have plans to upgrade their networks in 2009 to speeds of 7.2Mbps and higher.

However, there has been a recent debut of a network with speeds of up to 21Mbps. This is through a collaboration between Ericsson and Telstra in Brisbane, Australia. The first data call has been made and full trials are due to begin in December 2008 with a full launch in 2009.

When these speeds are widely available it will mean a revolution in the mobile internet market. People will be able to download films and stream TV and films at the same speeds they can achieve from their home broadband conection.
