Vodafone has long provided some of the fastest portable Internet speeds available. They currently offer up to 7.2Mbps and we recently announced the testing that had been completed by Vodafone for speeds of up to 16Mbps. However, the Mobile World Congress that is about to take place in Barcelona is set to see the world’s first HSPA+ USB dongle. The event is claimed to be the leading one for communications.

Huawei who are a leading mobile modem manufacturer are believed to be planning to launch their HSPA+ device there. They have provided hints at this in a report that they released which focuses on their commitment to helping operators move their services to a more profitable area.

This announcement ties in with previous statements issued by Vodafone that they are planning on collaborating with Huawei and Ericsson to provide the next generation of high speed best mobile broadband.

Current HSPA services offer a maximum of 14.4Mbps but HSPA+ promises to double this to 28.8Mbps. It offers a great future for the mobile operators and sets to keep Vodafone in its position as the operator providing the fastest UK mobile broadband speeds.

It seems that Vodafone is delivering on their plans. They have already announced that speeds of 16Mbps are working for them. No release dates have been announced for either the 16Mbps or 28Mbps services but it is believed that it could be a lot sooner than the industry expects.

Vodafone’s commitment to pushing the next generation of portable Internet speeds is great for the consumer. Not only does it provide consumers with access to an excellent array of services but it will put the other operators in the position of having to upgrade their own networks to remain competitive. As yet, the other major UK providers have yet to announce their own network upgrade plans but industry insiders feel that something is sure to happen in 2009.
