Vodafone is rapidly gaining a reputation for being committed to high speed mobile broadband access for its users. Not only does it currently provide the fastest availalble speeds in the UK with a 7.2Mbps network. It is regularly making announcements about its latest tests for faster speeds. They have just made another announcement that they are currently running tests of 3G HSPA+ networks. If successful, this would provide access to 20Mbps connections.
This come as welcome news after recent announcements from Italy and Australia about their best mobile broadband services that will be providing speeds of over 20Mbps.
Vodafone mobile broadband are working with a number of specialist companies in the field of communications including Ericsson. They have announced that they have been successful in reaching their top speeds during the tests. The tests were conducted in Spain in a number of locations.
These latest tests from Vodafone come after they have already been successful in testing connecting reaching over 16Mbps. It is expected that the company will make announcements about the first commercial launch of next generation speeds in 2009. They have said that they are extremely pleased with the results of the tests and that it will more than likely receive its first usage with business customers.
For these speeds to work effectively, new portable modems will need to be developed and produced. This could come at a cost to the consumer or the network. The news is great for Vodafone as it has been recently announced that consumers will be providing continued demand for these services as well as for Lord Carter who is looking to provide UK homes with access to faster Internet speeds.
