The Digital Britain report which is expected to be released in its entirety this summer will set out the plans to upgrade the UK’s broadband and mobile broadband networks to ensure that all UK residents can access at least 2Mbps speeds.
Orange, the UK mobile operator has stated that they will be happy to meet some of the targets but they would require an allocation of the spectrum that is currently used by O2 and Vodafone.
Orange made the suggestion as a response to the initial Digital Britain report which suggested the need to upgrade the networks.
Other plans include the collaboration ISPs with the entertainment industry with a goal of combating piracy on the Internet. This is not receiving much backing from ISPs.
It has been suggested that the mobile networks should play their part in meeting the plans by the use of UK mobile broadband services.
Orange has actually suggested that they would be happy to develop the entire capacity the is required but only in return for a share of the valuable frequency that is already being used by Vodafone and O2.
