The Digital Britain report is due to be released in its entirety this summer. The main aim of the report is to provide plans for the UK to have a minimum level of access to broadband speeds of 2Mbps. Currently over one and a half million UK households are not able to access the desired speeds set out in the report. The head of Ofcom has presented the level of the challenge that is facing the government in their goals.
Ofcom is due to publish research that will announce these results. It is believed that 40 percent of UK households do not have broadband and over half of these have actually suggested that they have no desire to access broadband Internet.
There are 30 percent of households who suffer from financial restrictions that limit them from having UK broadband access although they would like to have the access. There are also people without the financial resources but don’t have the desire.
It is interesting to discover that there are many people that have not been convinced by the benefits of being online. Apparently there are only 1 percent of homes that are restricted by location.
Adding in other areas of people that are unable to access the service, that is how they come up with the figure of one and a half million people.
While it is believed that the goals can be achieved, it is clear that there will need to be a large investment.
