It has been suggested that next generation mobile broadband provision will offer the required aid to help grow the European economy. This potential growth is vital in order to help the economies that are suffering as a result of the global economic crisis. The key element that is required is investment from the operators and co-operation from the governments.
As well as providing economic growth, it has also been stated that it will be able to assist with contributing much needed jobs as a result of expansion and network upgrades. Although the traditional revenue streams for the operators have dried up and are shrinking, mobile broadband provides an opportunity for networks to grow revenues and help the ailing economy.
This can only happen with the backing of governments that provide assistance in the form of reduced restrictions and additional investment. There are opportunities with providing extra spectrum that will be freed up once the digital television switchover has been completed.
The use of the spectrum by the UK networks is a subject that is due to be addressed by Lord Carter who is responsible for pushing the UK’s Internet usage forward with his Digital Britain report.
