Many tests have been undertaken recently to assess the viability of the next generation mobile broadband known as LTE. The most recent tests have been able to demonstrate speeds of 140Mbps which is a huge breakthrough for uk mobile broadband.

The evaluation of the technology was undertaken in Spain by the parent company of O2. It was during these tests that they were able to demonstrate the speeds of 140Mbps which is a huge leap forward for the service.

The test comprised various elements such as image, data and video. Telefonica was able to demonstrate its position as market leader in the field of mobile technology.

The LTE technology will transform the world of mobile broadband from its current position to that of a viable alternative to its fixed line cousin. It is set to cause major waves in the industry when it is finally released onto the public. There are questions over what the actual speeds will be but it is sure to be a lot higher than current 3G speeds.

There are a number of operators around the world that have signed up to implement the services but there are no announcements yet about UK based networks.
