The UK needs to ensure that it is watching the rest of the world. There are many countries that are overtaking when it comes to Internet provision. It was recently announced that South Korea would be trialling 1GB broadband. The latest announcement in next generation speeds comes from Italy.

The Italian best mobile broadband network has announced plans to introduce a 28Mbps package in 2009. This comes after collaboration with Ericsson. It will be launched in Milan and then should be rolled out to the rest of the country by the end of the year. Australia made statements of their plans to introduce a mobile broadband service that would reach speeds of up to 21Mbps. This is expected to launch at the end of the first quarter 2009.

The subject of cost has not yet been discussed for the new service in Italy. It can be expected that initial costs will be high as there is a lot of investment that goes into providing these facilities. Although over time, the prices are sure to reduce.

The increased speeds come as a result of Ericsson’s advanced technology in this field. It should be noted however, that the advertised speeds are the maximum available. The realities may well be different depending on the location of the user etc.
