BT is heavily involved in plans to upgrade the UK’s broadband networks and has recently revealed where the next places are that will benefit from high speed Internet. The announcement will tie in with the requirements of the Digital Britain report to provide high speed Internet for all UK citizens. BT has stated that it believes half a million homes will be able to access speeds up to 60Mbps from the upgrade.
There are a number of places around the UK that will be involved in the first wave of upgrades which include Edinburgh, London and Manchester. They plan to continue the upgrades into the third quarter when another one million people will be able to access the service.
A BT spokesman has stated that it is essential for the UK to remain competitive on a global scale. The only way that this can be met is to ensure that the entire country has access to high speed broadband. They also plan to provide the services to resellers so that many UK consumers will be able to benefit from the services.
