An industry body has made a request to the European Union (EU) to legislate against UK mobile broadband operators that deliberately block VoIP access for its customers.
VoIP is a growing area with Skype having millions of users all around the world. Many of the UK mobile broadband operators block access to the service. Vodafone is one of the operators that is not permitting access to its customers. UK consumers are growing their awareness of this problem.
The industry body that is backing this request has drafted suggestions as to how operators should be forced to behave to ensure that consumers are able to access all services across the Internet.
It is a great goal but unfortunately, the body has been pushing for a long time and as yet, they have had no success.
Operators have also been known to block instant messaging such as MSN. It is hoped that this will also be addressed by the upcoming Digital Britain report.
