The Digital Britain report has faced huge amounts of press this year. It proposes that all UK citizens are able to access a minimum of 2Mbps broadband speeds. However, these plans may be suffering due to the mobile operators.

The report that was released earlier in the year has suggested that the 2Mbps speeds could be met with the help of mobile broadband from the mobile operators. Unfortunately, the proposals are suffering after the operators are entering into conflict.

These conflicts are affecting the plans of the Digital Britain report. Lord Carter has been attempting suggesting that Ofcom are involved in suggesting the operators allocate part of the spectrum for mobile broadband.

It is suggested that UK mobile broadband will be able to fill the gaps in the more rural areas where fibre optics will not be able to reach. Unfortunately, the operators are not so keen to give up their spectrum for the cause. It is looking like some intense negotiations will need to be entered into to ensure that everyone is happy. This could add time to the plans which were aiming for a 2012 completion date.
