There has been a lot of news about tests in various areas of the UK to upgrade broadband networks. UK mobile broadband networks are also going to benefit from upgrades with networks such as Vodafone committing to reach speeds of 28Mbps and more in the next few years.
Recent announcements have suggested that an upgrade to the UK’s networks will be great news of the economy that is now officially in recession. It will put the UK’s networks in a more globally competitive position but could also help provide more jobs. A report has been released that has detailed the suggestions that this would really boost the economy.
As business moves forward, UK organisations need to take advantage of new opportunities that an upgraded network could offer and it could help people develop new skills. A white paper was released by the UK government and has been called “New Opportunities - Fair Chances for the Future”.
The point of the paper is to address and underline the opportunities that could be brought by the faster networks. It points that the Internet is a key component in competitive business and that with the growth of speeds and abilities of the networks it opens the possibilities for businesses to not require all of the components of its operation to be in the same physical location. The findings suggest that UK is a leader in knowledge based industries and that upgraded networks will help us to maintain this position.
Because people can now be located anywhere in the world to provide a number of services, it is important that the UK is going to be one of those locations. In order to be a key location for many of these opportunities, the UK must continue to invest in its networks to permit effective competition with the rest of the world.
This links in with Lord Carter’s “Digital Britain” report which is due to be released and make calls for more attention and upgrades to the UK’s networks.
